“In His Hands” is a new yearly program through the St Athanasius and St Cyril Theological School (ACTS), in partnership with the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Los Angeles, Southern California and Hawaii, designed to support and equip clergy at various stages of their ministry. This one year program provides for the theological, psychological, pastoral and family needs of newly-ordained and seasoned clergy. Currently, there is no known existing equivalent program existing in the Orthodox world, and In His Hands could become a model for Orthodox seminaries to implement in the near future. This program will also strengthen Christian congregations by providing an opportunity for clergy to step away briefly from the persistent obligations of daily parish life and to engage in a period of renewal and reflection. Renewal periods are times for intentional exploration and reflection, for drinking again from God’s life-giving waters, for regaining enthusiasm and creativity for ministry.

Through this program we seek to attend to the primary transitions in the career of our clergy, at the beginning of the ordination (first five years) as well as those who have served for many years. We also seek to meet the major challenges affecting our clergy today, including the need for theological education, cultural integration, and creativity in ministry.  To meet these challenges, we seek to provide intensive courses in theological education, mentoring and group discussions, and individual and family retreats. We pray that the Lord will continue to bless this work for the glory of His Name.
